Welcome to my web site where you'll see

everything from serene landscapes to wildly colorful 3-dimensional

paintings.

Williamsburg, Virginia - where I live and paint at By Design Studio -

could be called the birthplace of American art. Before the first English

settlers in nearby Jamestown imported their skills at glass-blowing and metalcrafting, native Indians' pottery and stone carvings merged function

and beauty.  Colonial Williamsburg's fine crafts made it a business hub

in the 18th century  and a nationally celebrated destination today.

Many acclaimed contemporary artists now call this area home:

Carlton Abbott, Nancy Thomas, Jan Ledbetter, Michelle Erickson

among other artists.   We also have an abundance of galleries and

museums, such as the Muscarelle Museum at the College of William

and Mary, This Century Art Gallery, Colonial Williamsburg's

Dewitt-Wallace Gallery, and more.

Quite simply, Williamsburg is a great place to create or see art, whether

it is in galleries, studios or at artists festivals. I hope you enjoy seeing

art on this web site, and I invite you to come to Williamsburg to see

all of our art venues in person.

How "therapy" changed her life!

Although Connie Desaulniers' major was Fine Arts at the College of William and Mary, marketing was her career for most of her adult life.  Starting as a sales rep at Busch Gardens after graduation, Connie was promoted to various marketing jobs until 14 years later, when she started her own marketing business, By Design.   During this time, art was her "therapy".  She eventually discovered the marketing business was all-consuming, zapping her creative energy (see "Before" above) and in need of more art in her day.   Seeing the light, she decided to become a full time artist and is having the time of her life (see "After" above).
