Fauna represents the Earth’s animal life. Fauna’s clothing is made of various animals coverings (barracuda, leopard, antelope, grouse, gorilla), with a coral snake for a belt, caterpillars for cuff links, a butterfly as a bow tie, bird’s nest pocket, and feather shirt. His hair is coiffed like the lion’s mane. Also look for hidden animals in the landscape, including an eagle, aligator, dragonfly, rhinoceros, toucan, rabbit, elephant, mermaid and cat. This painting merges with the painting of Flora (a branch from Flora’s apple tree, which shows up in Fauna’s world at the top right, holds Eve giving Adam the apple).
