Colonial Williamsburg is one big, interactive gallery and museum.  But they have two specialty museums that are favorites:  The Dewitt Wallace (http://www.history.org/history/museums/dewitt_gallery.cfm) and the Abby Aldrich (http://www.history.org/history/museums/abby_art.cfm).  Whether you live near Williamsburg or your visiting, a trip to Colonial Williamsburg's museums are a must.

The Muscarelle Museum at the College of William and Mary is a jewel box, with a permanent collection that ranges from Titian to Georgia O'Keefe.  The changing exhibitions are worthy of major metropolitan  cities - and often the Muscarelle is the exclusive mid-Atlantic location.  Exhibits have included drawings by Michelangelo, paintings by Caravaggio, and a collection of Impressionists paintings from Atlanta's High Museum (October 22, 2011 - January 22, 2012). http://web.wm.edu/muscarelle/?svr=www
